Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham Enjoys Gluten Free Life

There have been many discussions about staying healthy on a gluten free diet.  You don’t have to be a gluten intolerant or celiac disease sufferer to be on the diet as many celebrities, promote the gluten free diet as a means to staying slim. Victoria Beckham, former Spice Girl and now wife of soccer star, David Beckham, is one of the many celebrities enjoying a gluten free life. She suffers from allergies to dairy foods and wheat products, which is also associated with gluten intolerance. As a result she stays away from foods containing gluten.  She believes that gluten affects issues with digestion and from maintaining the correct weight.  Her gluten free diet appears to be working as she keeps fit and slim. However, she was recently seen visiting a fish and chip shop with her son, which caused a stir with the press.  She maintains it’s still gluten free, even if it isn’t particularly healthy!

Many consumers are also opting for a gluten free diet as a result of some of high profile celebrities like Victoria Beckham promoting the diet as a health lifestyle choice.  A recent survey of gluten free foods bought from supermarkets, however, discovered that the fat content in these products were several times higher than the everyday product.  Coeliac UK, suggests that the main reason people often lose weight on the diet is because foods containing gluten are also high in sugar and carbohydrates and loaded with calories.  It is therefore important to eat a naturally healthy and balanced diet consisting of foods from the five main food groups, such as lean meat, most types of fish, eggs, low fat cheese, skimmed milk, several servings of fruit and vegetables a day, rice and nuts.
